What’s involved in creating my own ebook for sale?

Written by admin on November 30th, 2008

I would like to know what steps I need to take to create my own ebook for sale. Right now, I am interested in writing fiction. After I’ve finished the story/book, what steps do I need to take, and what are the cost to get it copy-righted, published, and promoted on the internet? What sites would you recommend, that would take me step by step through the process (keep in mind that I’m new to this)? What are the pros and cons to getting my work published in ebook format vs paperback/hardcover format. Please be as detailed with your answer as possible. Thank you

P.S. Are there free, or really inexpensive ways to creating my own ebook for sale?

Oh God. I have been through this from start to finish. I was even involved with an ebook describing this very process.
The cons of publishing in ebook format is that they don’t sell. Even Amazon won’t sell ebooks anymore. That means that advertising it will be limited to whatever other ways are out there to sell…your own website, or other places (more time, energy, money invested).
The pros are of course, the cost being quite reasonable for set-up, and not having to deal with print-on-demand orders of a physical book that you publish yourself.
But if you want to sell books in a significant way, you’d better be awfully good at marketing your final product. That’s the one area where traditional publishers take the cake. If you can’t afford to market it, or don’t have the knowledge about marketing it, or the time to market it, you’re not going to have significant sales, no matter what it’s about.
If you are still really interested, I’ll try to get more information to you, but I wouldn’t really recommend it unless you don’t care at all about making money.
